الإنترنت في العراق: بين الضوئي والفضائي

زيادة سعات الإنترنت الضوئي (FTTH) في منتصف حزيران

بعد زيادة سعات الإنترنت الضوئي (FTTH) في منتصف حزيران (6)، بلغت السعات ما يأتي:

• اشتراك 35,000 د.ع بسعة 35 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 42 ميجابت في الثانية.
• اشتراك 45,000 د.ع بسعة 50 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 60 ميجابت في الثانية.
• اشتراك 65,000 د.ع بسعة 75 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 90 ميجابت في الثانية.
• اشتراك 100,000 د.ع بسعة 150 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 180 ميجابت في الثانية.

دخول ستارلينك (الإنترنت الفضائي) إلى العراق

دخل ستارلينك، الإنترنت الفضائي، إلى العراق بتاريخ 29 تموز (7) 2026 بأسعار منافسة، حيث بلغ سعر اشتراك 100 ميجابت في الثانية حوالي 63,000 د.ع، وسرعة 400 ميجابت في الثانية بسعر 98,230 د.ع.

قرار وزارة الاتصالات بزيادة السعات مرة أخرى

يأتي اليوم القرار من وزارة الاتصالات بزيادة سعات الإنترنت مرة أخرى في 12 من شهر آب (8)، حيث بلغ:

• الاشتراك بسعر 35,000 د.ع بسعة 42 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 50 ميجابت في الثانية.
• الاشتراك بسعر 45,000 د.ع بسعة 60 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 100 ميجابت في الثانية.
• الاشتراك بسعر 65,000 د.ع بسعة 90 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 180 ميجابت في الثانية.
• الاشتراك بسعر 100,000 د.ع بسعة 180 ميجابت في الثانية، أصبح بسرعة 300 ميجابت في الثانية.

ليدخل القرار حيز التنفيذ ابتداءً من الأول من شهر أيلول (9) المقبل، ويعدّ هذا القرار بمثابة صفعة قوية للإنترنت الفضائي في العراق، وهنا يأتي التساؤل:

هل الإنترنت الفضائي ستارلينك الآن صفقة جيدة في العراق؟

1. بالنسبة لسرعة الرفع (الأبلود)، أي رفع الفيديوهات والصور على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، فهو ضعيف جداً، حيث تتراوح بين 10 و30 ميجابت في الثانية للاشتراك المنزلي، بينما إنترنت FTTH ذو رفع جيد حسب سعة الاشتراك.
2. أما سرعة التحميل (الداونلود) فهي جيدة بل وجيدة جداً حسب سعة الاشتراك المنزلية، مما يتيح لك تصفحاً وتحميلاً أفضل من الإنترنت الضوئي، ولكن الإنترنت الضوئي ليس سيئاً في سرعة التحميل، وخاصةً بعد زيادة السرعة الجديدة التي ستدخل حيز التنفيذ قريباً.
3. بالنسبة للبينغ (سرعة الاستجابة) فيتفوق الإنترنت الضوئي عليه أيضاً.
4. الآن وبعد زيادة السرعات، أعتقد أنه بدايةً من الشهر القادم سيكون لمن لديه الوصول إلى إنترنت الكيبل الضوئي FTTH التفوقُ الكامل من حيث السرعة والسعر.
5. لنقارن شيئاً آخر أيضاً، وهو سعر المنظومة التي تحتاجها لتوفير الإنترنت: مثلاً لو كان لديك اشتراك كيبل ضوئي، تحتاج إلى 125,000 د.ع للحصول على أفضل الأجهزة، وكذلك UPS يدوم معك حتى 24 ساعة متواصلة. أما بالنسبة لستارلينك فالوضع مختلف قليلاً، حيث يجب أن تشتري الجهاز بسعر غالٍ جداً وهو 525,000 د.ع، وهو ما يعادل 5 أضعاف شراء أفضل أجهزة الإنترنت الضوئي، أو ما يعادل شراء الأجهزة مع الاشتراك باشتراك 45,000 د.ع لمدة تقارب 9 أشهر في الإنترنت الضوئي.
6. الآن لو أردنا المقارنة من جانب آخر، وهو المواقع التي تم حظرها من قِبل وزارة الاتصالات، فهي في الإنترنت الفضائي غير محظورة. وكذلك أعتقد أن الإنترنت الفضائي غير مشمول بالقطع أثناء الامتحانات؛ لا أعتقد أن هذه ميزة، ولكن نذكرها من باب المقارنة.

هل الإنترنت الفضائي صفقة ناجحة للمناطق الريفية والمناطق التي لم يصلها الإنترنت الضوئي؟

غالباً تلك المناطق تُزوَّد بالإنترنت عن طريق الأبراج، وهذه الأبراج يبدأ سعر الاشتراك فيها من 35,000 د.ع، وسعر المنظومة حوالي 200,000 د.ع. بينما تم إلغاء الاشتراك الفضائي الذي بسعة 100 ميجابت في الثانية، وبقي الاشتراك بسعة 400 ميجابت في الثانية بسعر 98,230 د.ع.

فالشخص الذي لا يتجاوز اشتراكه غالباً 65,000 د.ع كحد أقصى، يحتاج إلى 623,230 د.ع حتى يشترك شهراً واحداً فقط مع المنظومة، بينما يمكنه بهذا المبلغ أن يشتري منظومة جديدة ويشترك لمدة أكثر من 9 أشهر بالأبراج. ومع أن الأبراج لا تُقارن بالإنترنت الفضائي، إلا أن ما يُدفع مقابل الجهاز والاشتراك يعادل تقريباً اشتراك سنة كاملة (كحد أقصى) في الأبراج، وهذا أمر غير منطقي تماماً.

ولو كان سعر الاشتراك 35,000 د.ع، فسيعادل المبلغ سعر أعلى منظومة مع الاشتراك لمدة أكثر من سنة كاملة، وهذا الشيء شبه جنوني تقريباً، خاصةً أن متوسط الدخل العراقي يقارب 200,000 د.ع للفرد الواحد، فسيكون هذا الاشتراك غير منطقي تماماً بالنسبة له.

ولكن من ناحية أخرى، يمكن أن يكون هذا الاشتراك مناسباً لعدة منازل (3-4) عبر جهاز موزِّع واحد، ويُفضَّل أن تكون المنازل قريبة من بعضها البعض، أما بخلاف ذلك فهو ليس جيداً لبيت واحد.

Internet in Iraq: Fiber vs. Satellite

FTTH Fiber Capacity Increase in Mid-June

After the FTTH fiber internet capacity increase in mid-June (6), the capacities were as follows:

• The 35,000 IQD subscription at 35 Mbps became 42 Mbps.
• The 45,000 IQD subscription at 50 Mbps became 60 Mbps.
• The 65,000 IQD subscription at 75 Mbps became 90 Mbps.
• The 100,000 IQD subscription at 150 Mbps became 180 Mbps.

Starlink Enters Iraq

Starlink satellite internet entered Iraq on July 29, 2026 with competitive pricing: the 100 Mbps subscription cost around 63,000 IQD, and the 400 Mbps plan was priced at 98,230 IQD.

The Ministry of Communications Raises Capacities Again

Today comes the Ministry of Communications' decision to increase internet capacities once again on August 12:

• The 35,000 IQD subscription at 42 Mbps became 50 Mbps.
• The 45,000 IQD subscription at 60 Mbps became 100 Mbps.
• The 65,000 IQD subscription at 90 Mbps became 180 Mbps.
• The 100,000 IQD subscription at 180 Mbps became 300 Mbps.

The decision takes effect starting September 1. It is considered a strong blow to satellite internet in Iraq, and here comes the question:

Is Starlink Satellite Internet Now a Good Deal in Iraq?

1. As for upload speed — uploading videos and photos to social media — it is very weak, ranging between 10 and 30 Mbps on home subscriptions, while FTTH internet offers good upload speeds depending on the subscription capacity.
2. Download speed, on the other hand, is good — even very good — depending on the home plan, providing better browsing and downloading than fiber. That said, fiber internet is not bad at downloading either, especially after the new speed increase taking effect soon.
3. As for ping (latency), fiber internet outperforms it here as well.
4. Now, after the speed increases, I believe that starting next month, anyone with access to FTTH fiber internet will have complete superiority in both speed and price.
5. Let's compare something else too: the cost of the equipment needed to get internet. With a fiber subscription, you need about 125,000 IQD to get the best equipment, plus a UPS that lasts up to 24 hours continuously. With Starlink, the situation is different: you must buy the device at a very high price of 525,000 IQD — five times the cost of the best fiber equipment, or the equivalent of buying the equipment plus a 45,000 IQD subscription for about 9 months of fiber internet.
6. Comparing from another angle — websites blocked by the Ministry of Communications are not blocked on satellite internet. Also, satellite internet is believed to be exempt from shutdowns during exams. I don't consider this an advantage, but I mention it for the sake of comparison.

Is Satellite Internet a Good Deal for Rural Areas Not Reached by Fiber?

Most of those areas are supplied with internet through wireless towers, where subscriptions start at 35,000 IQD and the equipment costs around 200,000 IQD. Meanwhile, the 100 Mbps satellite subscription has been canceled, leaving only the 400 Mbps plan at 98,230 IQD.

A person whose usual subscription does not exceed 65,000 IQD at most would need 623,230 IQD just to subscribe for a single month with the equipment, while with the same amount they could buy brand-new equipment and subscribe to tower internet for more than 9 months. Although towers cannot be compared to satellite internet, paying the equivalent of nearly a full year's subscription for the device and one month of service is completely illogical.

If the subscription were 35,000 IQD, the amount would equal the price of the top-tier equipment plus more than a full year of subscription — something almost insane, especially considering that the average Iraqi income is around 200,000 IQD per person; for such a person, this subscription makes no sense at all.

On the other hand, this subscription could work well for several homes (3–4) sharing one distribution device, preferably with the homes close to each other. Otherwise, it is not a good option for a single house.
